Music & Gender

  In my experience with music and gender, I personally agree that gender does have an impact on music and how musicians are treated on a day-to-day basis. When I was younger, I didn’t really notice much of a difference in the type of music I listen to vs the type of music other people listened to. A good song was just that, a good song. Nothing more nothing less. As I am older now, I have come to realize that when it comes to men vs women artists, the expectations and standards differ tremendously in regards to the perspective of the media.  I listen to a pretty broad range of music, and some artists I’ve noticed in particular that have gotten conflicting treatment from the media are Megan Thee Stallion, and Lil Nas X. Starting with Megan Thee Stallion, the media tends to have controversial opinions on her music and lyrics. I, personally,  enjoy some songs of hers and think she’s a wonderful artist. My Musical Culture

My name is Zy, and Im a freshman at Converse. I grew up in Greenville, SC and graduated from wade hampton high school. I did colorguard for 4 years, in middle/high school, so I have some musical background. I also did a semester of orchestra, but found out the violin was far too advanced for me. Growing up, I was mostly surrounded by R&B, rap, and more pop/rock towards middle school. I had a very big Michael Jackson phase when I was like 10. I have always been really into all kinds of music, there is no genre I won't listen too.   1. An example (or two) of something that I like  right now As of late, I have been super into glass animals and any other artists that have similar sounding music (alt-j, monsune, mother mother). I like to turn my headphones all the way up and listen to them on full blast. The sounds just scratch my brain.
